Artist Profile

Paul Grégoire - CANADA

Animals occupy a special place in Paul Grégoire’s paintings. Without being a wildlife painter, he uses them as symbols. But his interest in osteology led him to paint them with a keen sense of anatomy. The structure of beings and things is the cornerstone of his work. As a consequence, we often find skeletons in his work, but he never falls into morbidity. We also find the aspect of duality in his paintings, as if Grégoire was struggling with his double. Grégoire is a storyteller, his stories are imaginary and have no definite morality. He graphically illustrates his inner thoughts. He works with oil on large canvases as if he was painting frescoes.
