Mihira Karra - USA
Mihira Karra was born in Kolkata, India, in 1958. She began sketching with pencil and using oil pastels as a young child, continuing this work through college. She discovered portraiture in her early teens by sketching family and friends. Later, she moved to the USA to pursue higher studies in the sciences, and unfortunately, art took a back seat. After a hiatus of more than 25 years, she was diagnosed with cancer. This became a wake-up call, and she became determined to pursue her true passion—art.
After recovering from her illness in 2013, Mihira attended a fabric collage workshop and fell in love with the medium. This marked the beginning of her incredible journey back to portraiture and figurative work through fine fabric collage.
More recently, Mihira has also returned to her first loves—pencil and pastels. She enjoys working in mixed media as well, using paper, paint, fabric, and other materials to add depth and texture. Mihira is represented by Zenith Gallery in Washington, DC, and is also featured on online platforms such as Teravarna, Artsy, and Artnet.
Her work has been shown in multiple art exhibitions across the USA and has been featured in the Washington Post. It is also part of private collections around the world, including the collections of the Mayor of Washington, DC, and the Arts Council of Washington, DC.
