Mihira Karra
Mihira Karra, an award-winning artist, blends cultural heritage and social consciousness in her fabric collages and mixed media works. Born in Kolkata, India, she explored diverse traditions across the Indian subcontinent before moving to the U.S. Though initially pursuing a career in the sciences, her passion for art never faded. Inspired by Greek mosaics and renowned fabric artist Laura Breitman, Mihira developed a signature style using highly patterned fabrics to create sculptural effects.
A cancer survivor, she reignited her artistic journey, winning accolades like the Tokyo Art Olympiad prize. Her works, often reflecting themes of identity, history, and resilience, have been exhibited at prestigious galleries, including Washington D.C.'s Zenith Gallery, and collected globally. Mihira’s art, featured in The Washington Post and held in private collections, continues to shape conversations on culture and social justice.
